Staff are proving to be a bigger problem than I thought. First names particularly.
The usual terms of respect to teachers was to refer to male teachers by name
or as "Sir" while female teachers were either by name or "Miss" some at first
tried to establish that they were Mrs but it was explained that the correct
term for a pupil to a teacher was Miss. It should be pointed out that some teachers
insisted on these terms and did not treat them as respect earned .... I recall
one teacher smacking a pupil until they called him Sir!
