Following the success of the 1969 Austria trip in 1972 another Summer visit was organised this time to to Spain.
Staying at the Lloret De Mar resort on the Costa Brava in the fairly new "San Marti Park 2" hotel.
Nine members of the Visually impaired sectioon of school went on the holiday they were:
Elaine Wightman
Helen Graham
Margaret Graham
Derek O'Hara
Richard Faulkner
Peter McBrien
Robert Armstrong
Peter Hallim
Peter Leach
Staying three to a room with the girls in together. Messrs Hallim, Armstrong and Leach were in room 331 while the girls were in 226 the other boys were on a different floor.
The Johnston and McLaughlin families were incharge of the trip both being teachers of the school.
Various trips were organised around the regular morning trip to the beach.
A trip to Barcelona included the Cathedral and a harbour boat trip that left from a jetty beside the replica "Santa Maria" and the American Naval base complete with aircraft carrier. The hoped for trip to Barcelona FC's ground was substituted for a visit to a nearby shopping mall.
Further trips included nearby towns, a "baby" bullfight with meal and wine included, a proper bullfight for those with a stronger stomach and various exploritiry walks to nearby sights.
The main nightlife for the pupils was based round the "Revolution" disco with various nights to the "Moby dick" English disco and a few other sights. The pupils had to be back in the hotel by 11.00 pm but were then free to join the activities in the hotel!
There was a larger contingent from the deaf departments but the holiday was peaceful and reasonably event free.
The only drawback was the travelling which was long and went from Jordanstown to Larne/Stranraer then down by coach to Gatwick for a flight by "Dan Air" to Spain and a further bus trip to Lloret. The journey hone was reversed.
